Real Thing Demonstration
Back in 2010 through 2011, we helped Real Thing Entertainment Pty Ltd design an intelligent toy -- think Furby 3. This concept video demonstrates the sorts of features and capabilities we had intended to build into the device. Unfortunately, funding was not available to fully realize our dream.
Mobile Technologies Speech-to-Speech Translator
During the same time frame, I did a technology evaluation of speech-to-speech translators. I reviewed two translators that are demonstrated in the two videos below -- the top one from SRI International that had been developed during the 2003 - 2006 time frame under a DARPA contract, against the bottom one from Mobile Technologies, a Pittsburgh-based start-up whose work derives from the long-standing speech research program at Carnegie-Mellon University. The MT technology turned out to be better, cheaper, faster, and lighter (in computer resources).
Of late, we have been developing a line of iPhone mobile apps that use the Nuance speech recognizer (same as in Apple's Siri) to perform speech recognition and text-to-speech for your social and business connections. Basically, using one of VoiZapp's mobile apps, you can stay in touch with your friends and associates via Facebook, Twitter, Email, and/or Google News while you're driving, walking, working, anytime your eyes are otherwise occupied.
